Purcell Construction Co., Watertown, has been awarded an Army contract worth $46,650,000 for multiple building projects at Fort Lee, Va.
The companys chief financial officer, Christina J. Schneider, said she and colleagues were thrilled to learn the news late Monday afternoon.
I didnt even have time to let it sink in yet, she said.
The project will include a 60,000-square-foot expansion to a five-story barracks; construction of a new, 181,000-square-foot, five-story barracks building; demolition of six small buildings; construction of a running track, and creation of a geothermal heating and cooling system.
Mrs. Schneider said the project is expected to take 18 to 24 months. She said the company has operated an office in Richmond, Va., about a half-hour from the post, for about eight to 10 years.
Purcell Construction beat the bids of 10 other companies vying for the project, according to an Army news release announcing the award.
The project is one of the 10 largest the company has ever been awarded, Mrs. Schneider said.
