NORWOOD - The brand new Career and Technical Education Pharmacy Technician program began in September with 32 students enrolled across the three CTE Centers. Eight students are enrolled at Southwest Tech Center in Gouverneur, 13 at Seaway Tech Center in Norwood, and 11 at Northwest Tech Center in Ogdensburg.
Were really excited to be able to offer this opportunity at all three centers, noted Director of Career and Technical Education Renee Langtry-Green. This program will ensure that students can be both college and career ready out of high school. Students will be able to go out into the workforce or continue with their education after following this path.
A comprehensive 450-hour one-year program, the Pharmacy Technician program will prepare successful students for the National Certification exam through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services and work in a variety of settings. They may also assist a licensed Pharmacist to provide medication and other health care products to patients.
In October, students will begin taking field trips to pharmacies as well as to the ProAct Warehouse. Students will also participate in job shadowing experiences at local pharmacies across the county.
In addition, Kinney Drugs is working with us to set up a mock pharmacy at each tech center where students will get valuable hands on experience, added Mrs. Langtry-Green.
