Bednarsky helps Saints blank Bears

CANTON — Andrew Bednarsky played a role in each goal as the St. Lawrence University men’s soccer team defeated SUNY Potsdam 3-0 in a nonconference game Friday afternoon. It was the 500th win in the history of the SLU program.

Bednarsky scored the first goal of the game for the Saints (4-1-1 overall) and then assisted on goals from Harry Copeland and Christian Barral-Arteta.

Aaron Costello made three saves to shut out the Bears (5-3).

n Both the men’s and women’s teams produced dominant performances as St. Lawrence University swept the title at the Saratoga Cross Country Invitational.

SLU’s women finished with 48 points, well ahead of second-place Ithaca, which had 95. Clarkson finished in 13th place.

The Saints men finished with 27 points and host Rensselaer was second with 74. Clarkson’s men finished in 11th place.

Ariel Beccia won the women’s race for the Saints. Teammate Amy Cymerman was second. SLU’s Trevor Bibb won the men’s race.
