CORNWALL, Ont. – The hectic off-season is now in the rear-view mirror for the Cornwall River Kings as training camp officially opened last weekend at the Civic Complex.
It was nice to get the hockey hype back, said head coach Steve Simoes. We want to leave the off-ice stuff off the ice and we are now focused on building our squad.
The River Kings are back on the ice Saturday (8 p.m. start) with their intrasquad game. It will be intense, said Simoes. We are trying to build a team with good speed and grit. Tickets for the intrasquad game will be $5 for any age group.
On Sunday, Cornwall hosts Trois-Rivieres (4 p.m. puck drop) in its first pre-season tilt. Exhibition game tickets will be $10 and $5 for children.
One player Simoes believes will make an impression this weekend is forward Bobby Mazerolle, who was acquired by General Manager Al Wagar last week.
Hes a kid that always finds a way to win, said Simoes.
Cornwall also acquired former Akwesasne Warriors fireplug Ahmed Mahfouz along with a 10th round draft pick in the deal that sent last years backup goaltender Fred Piche to the Marquis de Jonquiere.
Season tickets are now on sale at the River Kings office. Season tickets are $255 for adults, $175 for seniors and students and $80 for children ages 12 and under. Single game tickets will be $14 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $5 for children.
The Drive to 400 is also on and one lucky River Kings fan will win the grand prize, a trip to Las Vegas. Fans can fill out a ballot when purchasing season tickets. The second-place prize is a River Kings jersey and dinner for two at Shoeless Joes.
