Watertown City School District officials are trying to figure out how a North Elementary School kindergartner went missing on Friday afternoon after he apparently walked away from the East Hoard Street facility.
Police were called at about 2:27 p.m. Friday for a missing student. Watertown city police confirmed a student left the school, but the child later was found unharmed near Public Square.
Watertown City School District Superintendent Terry N. Fralick said district officials are investigating the incident. They also talked to the police and to the unidentified boys mother about what happened.
Its perplexing, he said. I dont know what happened.
Mr. Fralick insisted North Elementary School officials followed proper protocol and procedures, noting the kindergartner was in line with his classmates ready to leave school and be picked up by his mother. He attributed the incident to the kindergartner possibly being confused because he just started going to school.
The school has students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
