CANTON — A Morley man is charged in the theft and forgery of a neighbor’s Social Security check.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies charged Scott C. Simmons, 25, of 134 Church Street, with two counts of petit larceny and one count of third-degree forgery in connection with the stolen check.

Deputies allege Mr. Simmons stole the check from the mailbox of neighbor Robert Wright, 51, of 132 Church St. and allegedly forged the victim’s signature to cash the check. The amount of the check was not disclosed.

The nature of the relationship between the two men and how Mr. Simmons knew to look for the Social Security check is unknown, deputies said.

Deputies said the United States Postal Inspector has also been notified.

Mr. Simmons was issued appearance tickets for the charges and is due to appear in Town Court at a later date.
