OGDENSBURG Ogdensburgs firefighters and the city are in negotiations to frame a new labor contract to replace the two-year pact that expired Dec. 31.
Representatives of the city and the 28 firefighters belonging to International Association of Firefighters Local 1799 last met Sept. 5 and are scheduled to sit down again Friday.
Union President Terry L. Shaver declined last week to address speculation that an impasse was imminent.

Mr. Shaver said that wages and health care costs were at issue in the ongoing negotiations.
City Manager John M. Pinkerton declined to comment Friday.
The expired contract, which is still in effect, called for a 3.25 percent cumulative pay hike and increased contributions for health care. Its terms include:
■ A 1.5 percent pay increase in 2011 and 1.75 percent in 2012.
■ Employee health insurance contributions, made biweekly, increased from $15 for all to $20 for a single person, $25 for a couple and $30 for a family with a 2.4 percent rise in subsequent years.
■ Firefighters would perform code inspections for commercial and public assembly buildings starting last year. At least eight of them had to sign up for certification, joining 13 other firefighters.
■ The firefighters joined the citys mandatory mail order prescription drug plan in 2012.
Local 1799 represents 21 firefighters, four assistant chiefs and four captains.
