As the U.S. edges closer to war with the Syrian government, I ask President Obama to please refrain from committing our troops to a war that is not in our national interest.
The American people, in poll after poll, have declared that we do not want to get involved in this civil war, and in fact want our troops brought home. Up here in the land of the 10th Mountain Division, we have had enough of seeing our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends brought home either in body bags or with incapacitating injuries. We just want our brave soldiers kept safe and brought home to be with their families.
After 10 years of entanglement in Afghanistan and Iraq, followed by our senseless incursion in Libya, we neither need nor want another war that will result in a regime that will hate us more than the one we will be helping to replace. If Congress wants us to get involved in the Syrian Civil War, then let Congress suit up and go fight it. Leave our precious military out of it.
