BRASHER FALLS — The body of a 58-year-old woman was found Tuesday in a swampy area behind 54 Upper Ridge Road in the town of Brasher, according to state police.

The woman was identified as Kathy R. Eckstein, of the same address, according to Senior Investigator Judith M. Trimboli of state police in Massena.

The woman was reported missing by her family Monday, according to state police Lt. Brent M. Davison, who said a neighbor walking in a swampy field Tuesday morning found the body and called police.

State police obtained a search warrant and arrived at 12:30 p.m. to retrieve the body, according to Lt. Davison, who said there was no sign of foul play

The Ecksten residence is located between Hopson Road and Small Road.

An autopsy is scheduled for 7 p.m. today.

How soon a cause of death is determined will depend on whether a toxicology report is needed, Lt. Davison said.
