OSWEGO — Samantha Rock scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Julia Friesen in the 77th minute to lead the St. Lawrence University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over SUNY Oswego in a nonconference game Saturday.

Friesen scored the first goal of the game for the Saints (4-0 overall) in the 7th minute.

Tia Segretto tied the game for SUNY Oswego (2-2) in the 29th minute.

HOUGHTON 1, CLARKSON 0

Atalie Fite scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute as Houghton knocked off Clarkson (2-2) in a nonconference game in Houghton.

Houghton (3-0) outshot Clarkson 20-4 and Shawna Sprout made just one save for the shutout.

D’YOUVILLE 4, SUNY CANTON 1

Danielle Gehen netted a pair of first half-goals as the Spartans downed the Kangaroos in Buffalo.

Nicole LaVere and Abby Tezak chipped in with goals for D’Youville (3-1).

Nikki Holmes scored the lone goal for SUNY Canton (3-1).

TOMPKINS-CORTLAND CC 5, JEFFERSON CC 0

Hannah Wildenstein’s two second half-goals helped the Panthers blank the host Cannoneers (1-1) in a Mid-State Athletic Conference game.

Erika Faberzak, Taylor Liebowitz and Megan Reynolds also scored for Tompkins-Cortland Community College (4-1, 1-0).

MEN’S SOCCER

ST. LAWRENCE 2, SUNY GENESEO 1 (OT)

Jeremiah Bunton scored off assists from Morgan Smith and Jamal Samaroo in the 102nd minute as the Saints (3-1) claimed an overtime win over SUNY Geneseo in a nonconference game in Canton.

Daniel Hunt scored in the 12th minute for SLU, and Jason Ianone sent the game to overtime with a goal in the 79th minute for SUNY Geneseo (1-2-1).

ROCHESTER 7, CLARKSON 0

Michael Cross scored two goals to lead Rochester past Clarkson (1-3) in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Jeffrey Fafinski, Keith Grafmeyer, Alex Swanger, Zachary Kanaley and Jarvis D’Souza also scored for Rochester (3-1).

SUNY POTSDAM 2, OLD WESTBURY 1

Tom Benedetto scored 17 seconds into the game as the Bears outlast the Panthers in a nonconference game at Potsdam.

Eduardo Figueroa added the eventual game-winner for SUNY Potsdam (3-1).

Angelo DiMatteo tallied for Old Westbury (1-1).

SUNY CANTON 2, SUNY ALFRED 0

Evan Drew made six saves to give the Kangaroos a win over SUNY Alfred (1-3) in a nonconference game in Canton.

Nick Escalante scored two goals for SUNY Canton (1-2).

TOMPKINS-CORTLAND CC 3 JEFFERSON CC 1

The Cannoners dropped a Mid-State Athletic Conference game at the Duffy Fairgrounds.

Graham Whalen scored on an assist from Kyle Miller for JCC (1-2).

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. LAWRENCE 4, HARTWICK 1

Lizzy Saward scored twice to lead the Saints (1-2) past Hartwick in a nonconference game in Oneonta.

Katie Higgins and Kara Pelosi also scored for SLU, and Nicole Matos stopped four saves, including a penalty stroke.

VOLLEYBALL

CLARKSON SWEEPS TOURNAMENT

Clarkson (6-2), ranked No. 23 nationally, ended a 4-0 weekend with a pair of sweeps in the second day of the Victory Promotions Invitational at SUNY Potsdam.

The Golden Knights swept Norwich 25-7, 25-8, 25-10 and swept SUNY Plattsburgh 25-13, 25-6, 25-11. Erika Chin led Clarkson with eight aces and Brooke Butkovsky produced nine kills.

SUNY Canton won three of its four matches over the weekend and opened day two with a 25-7, 25-8, 25-10 sweep of SUNY Potsdam. The Kangaroos (6-1) then swept Norwich 25-7, 25-12, 25-15.

Mackenzie Mynter produced 26 assists for SUNY Canton against the Bears, and Morgan Bills provided 11 kills against Norwich.

SUNY Potsdam (4-5) ended the tournament with an 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-11 loss to St. Michael’s.

St. Lawrence University (4-3) opened with a five-game loss to Queens in an exhibition match but finished the tournament by sweeping Southern Vermont 25-7, 25-16, 25-10 in Canton. Anna Kassab produced 16 assists, and Jenna Street added 12 for SLU against Southern Vermont.

CROSS COUNTRY

SLU MEn, women roll

St. Lawrence University men’s runners took the top eight spots at it swept the Cardinal Invitational at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Scott Smolensky won the individual race in 15 minutes, 40 seconds while Wesley Kirui was second in 15:45.

The SLU women placed all five of its scorers in the top seven finishers to win the Plattsburgh Cardinal Invitational.

Ariel Beccia was the individual champion with a time of 18:18 with Amy Cymerman finishing third in 18:51.

POTSDAM WOMEN 10TH, MEN 13TH

Hannah Groshner placed 42nd in the women’s 5-kilometer race as the Bears finished 10th in a 12-team field at the SUNY Oswego Invitational.

Ithaca won the women’s team event and SUNY Cortland’s Emily Cotey, a former Norwood-Norfolk runner, won the race.

SUNY Cortland swept the top eight spots in the men’s 8K race with Pat Fannon finishing first. Brandon Bobik was the high finisher for the Bears at 65th.

KANGAROOS FINISH SECOND

Thomas Lauzon finished in 10th overall to help SUNY Canton to a second-place finish at the Casleton (Vt.) Invitational.

Castleton won the event with 31 points and the Kangaroos scored 75. Castleton’s Isaac French was as the overall winner.

GOLF

PALLADINO SHOOTS 68

Nick Palladino shot a four-under par 68 to help the University of Rochester to a seven stroke lead after day one of the St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

Rochester had a best four of five total of 292 with Clarkson second at 299, St. Lawrence third at 304 and SUNY Canton fourth at 306 in a 10-team field.

SLU junior Jack Whelan fired a 71. SUNY Canton’s Mike Reilly, of Colton, shot a 72.

In the women’s tournament, Ithaca holds the first-day lead with a team total of 311 with St. Lawrence fifth at 353.

The Bombers’ Sharon Li posted a two-over 74, and SLU’s Clair O’Neil shot an 83.
