POTSDAM — Bre Sapp made six saves to lead the Potsdam girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Madrid-Waddington in a semifinal of the John Jeffers Tournament on Thursday night at Potsdam High School. It was the opener for both teams.

Potsdam will meet Colton-Pierrepont at 9 a.m. Saturday in the title game ,while Madrid-Waddington plays St. Lawrence Central at the same time in the consolation game.

Abby Gruneisen scored the first goal for Potsdam in the 15th minute, and Kalie Grant scored another goal in the 25th minute.

COLTOn-PIERREPONT 1, ST. LAWRENCE 0

Kathryn Miller stopped four shots as the Colts blanked St. Lawrence Central in the other John Jeffers Tournament game, which opened the season for both teams.

Madison Gregg scored from Andrea Aldous in the fifth minute for the Colts.

BOYS SOCCER

EDWARDs-KNOX 2, HAMMOND 1 (OT)

Hunter Tuttle scored the game-winning goal in overtime to send Edwards-Knox past the Red Devils in the Northern Athletic Conference West Division opener for each team in Hammond.

Tucker O’Brien scored in the 12th minute for the Cougars, and Tristan Simmons tied the game for Hammond in the 26th minute.

HEUVELTON 4, CLIFTON-FINE 1

Heuvelton scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Eagles in the West Division opener for both teams at Star Lake.

Aidan Scagel scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute. Noah Steel, who assisted on Scagel’s goal, scored in the 73rd minute, and Joe McDonnell added another goal in the 76th minute.

Dylan Liscum scored earlier for Heuvelton and Ryan Jones scored the lone goal for Clifton-Fine.

HARRISVILLE 4, MORRISTOWN 2

Harrisville rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Green Rockets in the West Division opener in Morristown.

Chris Sullivan tied the game in the 64th minute and Jared Dreythaler scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th. Sullivan later scored again.

Tim Fowler also scored for Harrisville. Ryan Vollmer and Jake VanArnum scored for Morristown.

VOLLEYBALL

MADRID-WADDINGTON 3, CANTON 2

Dia Richards amassed 28 service points as the Yellow Jackets opened the NAC season with a 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-16 win over Canton in Madrid.

Brittani Dawley scored 16 points, and Jenny King provided six kills and five blocks for Madrid-Waddington.

POTSDAM 3, OFA 1

Sarah Vivlamore scored 12 points and added 35 sets as the Sandstoners beat Ogdensburg Free Academy 25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-19 in Potsdam.

Victoria Mondragon added 14 points for Potsdam. Skye Hoover led OFA with four kills.

CHATEAUGAY 3, MASSENA 1

Caitlin Miller provided 11 kills as Chateaugay defeated the Red Raiders 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-10 in Massena. Kylie Hanley added 14 points and 22 assists for Chateaugay.
