To the people of Alexandria Bay:
My name is Nicholas Speach. I am looking to be your next mayor of the village.
The area needs to grow by increasing more events. We the people need to realize with the economy the way it is that this cannot be a one-season town. I will work diligently with the Chamber to bring more events to the area, not just summer events, we need to grow into the fall season.
As a candidate for Republican mayor in the Sept. 10 primary, I have been doing my due diligence by knocking on doors throughout the village and have had great responses on my thoughts and focus for the village; I truly appreciate that. I will continue going door to door and meeting all residents of the village.
I have a recurring question that is asked of me: Are you a native of the village? The answer is no, but I respond by telling how I brought a business here in 1982-83 and was ahead of its time, which would be Jet Ski rentals. After serious consideration, I sold them off due to people did not except them at that time.
I have always wanted to move back to Alexandria Bay. I finally did in 2002 and raised my son who attended ACS and was an all sports player and kept his academics up. He now has started his second year at SUNY Canton and is on the golf team and basketball team his first year; he loves this village as I do.
I only want to see this village grow stronger and in more of a positive direction so his children and all the residents who have children enjoy the area as we have. So my answer to the question, am I a native, is no but I love and respect the St. Lawrence River as much as all who have been born and raised here. I am going to work hard and give it my all to aid in building this community better than it has ever been.
I am a person who never turns his back on someone who needs help, I will be loyal and will be the person to come to with any concerns. I will have the answers for residents concerns and not defer anyone to another committee.
The mayor should have all the answers that are asked of them. If they dont, then they should contact that committee themselves and get back to the concerned citizen personally. I appreciate all who open their doors and listen to my concerns and care for this wonderful village, and I thank you all. God bless America and this village!
