Belleville- David L. Stephens, 68, Belleville, formerly of Adams, passed away Tuesday evening at his home.

Calling hours are Saturday, September 7th from 2 pm – 4 pm at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be private.

David was born July 13, 1945 in Ellisburg, a son to Nestor and Eleanor Corrigan Stephens. He graduated from Mannsville Manor High School in 1965. Following his graduation, David joined with the US Navy in December of 1965, serving in Danang, Vietnam from May of 1967 until May of 1968. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until 1971.

Following his military service, David returned to the North Country where he worked on several area farms, later working for Dairylea and Great Lakes Cheese in Adams for 12 years, retiring due to disability.

He is survived by 5 daughters, Crystal (Daniel) Fleming, Adams; Cynthia Hutchins, Black River; Tanya Stephens, Freeport, TX; Becky Stephens, Colorado Springs, CO; and Brandi Stephens, Belleville; 11 grandchildren. Two brothers, Norman Stephens, PA and John Stephens, Henderson. Two sisters, Helen Stephens, Ellisburg and Donna Whalen, Pulaski. Several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by a brother James, a sister Mary Clark, and a grandchild.
