On Sept. 10, Cape Vincent Republican Party members have the right to vote in the primary to determine the Republican candidates for the November election.

Urban Hirschey, Brooks Bragdon and Michelle Oswald are Town Board members running for re-election. Each brings distinct strengths to the board.

Together, they supported a much-needed revision of the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Law using a series of meetings open to all citizens. They ensured all Town and Planning Board meetings are video recorded so citizens unable to attend meetings are able to view them.

They educated themselves on the Article X process to ensure our town is properly represented in the Article X process with BP. They secured the funding for the District 6 water district and are working on options for other town water districts.

They established a regular process of auditing the town financial records, improved security at the Town Office and ensured the continuation of the after-school child care program in the town. They brought Metalcraft Marine here for an economic boost. They continue to use the Town Comprehensive Plan as the guide for town development.

Mr. Hirschey is completing his second term as supervisor. His management experience brought positive changes to Town Board operations. His business experience and active countywide committee service provides him with a knowledge base of how to make positive things happen for our town.

Ms. Oswald and other elected village and town women solicited ideas for positive community development from a wide base of town women. Expansion of the youth commission and chamber activities are some ideas Ms. Oswald has pledged to promote.

Mr. Bragdon brings his experience in real estate, his knowledge of town finances and his passion for the ongoing positive development of our town. He has extensive knowledge of historic town buildings and takes actions to ensure these are protected for the future.

Other primary candidates appear to be running a negative campaign. Previous Town Board members ensured election of a town clerk found guilty of stealing town funds, voted against audits, passed an illegal voter ID resolution, denied public comments at meetings and ignored ethics board recommendations to abstain from voting on wind issues when several had signed leases.

We judge people by their actions. Vote to continue the positive success of the last two years.

Vote to protect our town from industrial wind development and enhance our community development. Vote Hirschey, Bragdon and Oswald.
