ALEXANDRIA BAY — The sounds of electric guitars, drums and cheering crowds filled the air Saturday, as part of the 13th Annual Blues in the Bay Weekend.

From the village docks to Church Street, James Street was closed to automobiles for the festival, which attracted hundreds of people to downtown. Performances are held under a large tent.

“I’d definitely say it’s worth coming for one day,” said Sarah L. Holbrook, who attended the event with daughter McKenzie M., 3. “It’s fun, and she likes it. It’s kid-friendly.”

Her husband, Randy J., took a chance at winning the raffle of a Fender guitar, which was donated by Dr. Guitar Music, Watertown. Tickets are $5 each, and the drawing will be held today.

While the Holbrooks came to the village via boat from their camp in Morristown, other couples traveled from throughout the state. Christine and John Ryan, Auburn, attended the blues festival because “it’s a fun getaway,” Mr. Ryan said. The couple has attended the event since 2007.

“It’s beautiful here, a great place to be and the people are friendly,” Mrs. Ryan said.

Mark and Carla Hibbard, Corning, swayed to the music of Morris & the Hepcats, one of the weekend’s featured bands.

“We go to different blues festivals,” Mr. Hibbard said. “For us, this is something we both started liking at the same time. We do love the music. We’ll probably come to this one next year. It’s a good lineup.”

Blues in the Bay began Thursday with a set performed by Bernie Clarke & the Rhythm Sharks, and the Ron Spencer Blues Band performed Friday. Saturday’s other acts included Tom Townsley & the Backsliders and Los Blancos. The festival continues today with performances by String of Pearls and the Double Barrel Blues Band. Sunday night’s headliner is the internationally acclaimed Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown. Blues in the Bay concludes Monday with an all-star jam fest, hosted by the Double Barrel Blues Band.

The free event is sponsored by the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce. For more information, people may visit the chamber’s website, www.visitalexbay.org.
