The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has launched a campaign at its 149 boat launch sites statewide asking boaters to keep their boats clean to prevent the spread of invasive species.

In a release, the office said boaters should clean and remove all visible plants, animals and mud, drain water before leaving the launch and dry their boats and trailers completely.

Aquatic invasive species are non-native plants and animals that threaten native plants and wildlife and their habitats.
