Two national chain retail stores are preparing for fall openings in Gateway Plaza, Ford Street Extension.

GNC, which sells vitamins and nutritional supplements, and video game and entertainment software retailer GameStop will each have neighboring 1,500-square-foot spaces in the shopping center.

“I expect them to be opening in October,” said Steven J. Powers, vice president of Nigro Companies, the Albany developer that owns Gateway Plaza and has a history of successfully recruiting retailers.

The two stores will be located between Maurices clothing store, which earlier this summer took the space formerly occupied by Fashion bug, and Rent-A-Center. Based in Pittsburgh, General Nutrition Corporation has more than 6,000 stores nationwide.

Texas-headquartered GameStop operates 6,700 stores worldwide.

The two new stores will mean 100-percent occupancy at Gateway Plaza, whose 11 other tenants include Lowe’s and Price Chopper.

There are also GNC and GameStop stores in Massena.
