MOIRA The Town Council remains undecided whether to keep Pamela Sloate as assessor or hire someone new.
Ms. Sloate expressed her interest in being reappointed for the next six years at the July meeting.
Im expressing my desire to be your assessor for a six-year term starting Oct. 1 and ending Sept. 30, 2019, she said.
Ms. Sloates term will be up on Friday. She is paid $16,000 per year, according to Moira Supervisor Cindy Gale.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the board entered into executive session to discuss the position. The board decided to table any decision on the reappointment of Pamela Sloate, until they discuss a few items with her at the September meeting, Ms. Gale said in an email.
Ms. Gale said the board has two questions for Ms. Sloate.
If they are not happy with the answers, then we will advertise, Ms. Gale said, adding that the questions will be asked in executive session.
If Ms. Sloate were to be reappointed, Ms. Gale said, her salary would remain at $16,000 per year. However, she said, the salary will be up for discussion should there be a new assessor.
Ms. Gale noted the board has not advertised for the position, though it had decided at the July meeting to do so this month.
At the July meeting, Moira resident Vitaline LaPage inquired about the position.
The board told her she would have to meet the qualifications according to the state Department of Taxation and Finance website.
However, Ms. Gale said no one sent in applications.
Theres a lot to discuss, Councilor Lindsay Rockhill said Friday. We want to make sure everybody is happy. Thats what were here for.
