A Watertown woman was charged by city police after she allegedly left a 6-year-old unattended Saturday night and possessed illicit pills.

Police said Martina L. Tate, 27, of 618 Bronson St., was seen walking in the middle of the street, ignoring the calls for help from the child who ran after her.

Police stopping Ms. Tate said they found a whole pill and three half-pills of alprazolam, a controlled substance, in a pill box in her purse.

Charged at 10:59 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of Clinton Street with endangering the welfare of a child and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Ms. Tate was held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in City Court.
