HENDERSON — The beach at Southwick Beach State Park was closed on Friday because of water quality concerns.

Daniel L. Keefe, a spokesman for the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said the beach was closed after a water sample test showed levels of bacterial contamination beyond appropriate levels.

He said the earliest the park could reopen is today, depending on further tests of water samples.

He said increased levels of contamination are not uncommon following heavy rain.
