MORRISTOWN - Jeffrey M. Durant will be Morristown Central Schools principal starting September 1.
He will replace O. Michael Wills who resigned as principal, effective at the end of the month.
The Morristown Board of Education unanimously approved his hiring and Mr. Durant will have a starting salary of $69,000.
Mr. Durant previously served as middle school principal and athletic director at Saranac Central School, a position he held since 2011.
Morristown Superintendent David J. Glover said there were between 13 and 15 applicants to fill the position of school principal.
He is a high energy guy, Mr. Glover said of Mr. Durant. Were excited to have him.
Mr. Glover said Mr. Durants prior administrative experience was a factor in the decision to hire him, and noted his familiarity with the new teacher review standards.
He likes to put a plan together and execute that plan, Mr. Glover said.
Mr. Wills was hired the schools business teacher earlier this summer.
The business teacher position was created in June.
Part of the transition saw Mr. Wills salary reduced from $70,000 to $52,000.
Mr. Wills has not commented on his decision to switch from principal to business teacher, but he taught business and technology classes at Edwards-Knox Central School and SUNY Potsdam between 2008 and 2011.
Mr. Wills also served as general manager at the Royal Glass Company in Capitol Heights, Md., for nine years until 1996.
