CLAYTON Two men were rescued Tuesday night from a buoy in the St. Lawrence River off the shore near Clayton.
Details were still sketchy Thursday, but what is known is that three people fell out of a boat about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, state police said. A 911 dispatcher took a call from the area of Blanchard Road.
State police said Patrick Gefell and Jonathan White, their ages and addresses unavailable, were clinging to the buoy after they and the boats operator, Lucas Chase, Woodstock, Ulster County, fell out of the vessel. A wave knocked them overboard as they were trying to tie the craft to the buoy, state police said.
First responders picked up Mr. Gefell and Mr. White.
Mr. Chase swam to shore and was uninjured, state police said. He was ticketed for operating an unregistered vessel.
