The Jefferson County Board of Elections invalidated the Sackets Harbor village Democratic caucus Monday after a resident filed a specific objection to the event.
The Board of Elections was not properly notified as to the time and location of the caucus ten days prior to the caucus, said Democratic Commissioner Babette M. Hall.
The objection was filed by Robert Johnson, a Democrat who resides in the village, Ms. Hall said.
The village Democratic Committee now has until Sept. 17 to reschedule a caucus to nominate candidates for political office in this years election.
The committee had nominated Mark A. Pacilio for mayor, Cheryl M. Payne and Corry J. Lawler for village trustee and Molly C. Reilly and Helene G. Stewart-Rainville for committee seats.
Mr. Pacilio, who is planning to run against Republican Vincent J. Battista III for the position, said that he sent in the notifications a couple days late and that the committee will hold another caucus.
We will make another date and make sure the Board of Elections gets notified, he said. We had a lot of people at the last one and we look forward to having even more at the second.
Mr. Pacilio is the chief of staff for state Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa, and previously served two terms as village trustee, including one as deputy mayor.
Mr. Battista is nearing the end of his first term on the Hounsfield Town Council. Before that he served as a village trustee from 2007 to 2009. He also holds a seat on the Sackets Harbor Fire Companys board of directors.
Once named, candidates will have until Sept. 20 to accept or decline a nomination.
