Tavern, home chamber monthly honorees

A neighborhood tavern and a home just a few doors away are the August honorees for the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce’s monthly business and homeowner Gateways and Corridors award for facade improvement.

Sully’s Tavern, 901 Ford St., and the home of Morgan C. Fletchall, 318 Paterson St., will display the chamber’s blue ribbon award signs in front of each of their properties to promote the honors which are given monthly in spring, summer and fall. The chamber’s mission is to encourage home and business owners and the city to improve the appearance of so-called gateway streets to bring visitors and would-be homeowners, and investors.

“It’s nice that they do that,” said Sully’s owner Michael S. Sullivan, who had the tavern’s exterior painted green earlier this month.

Mr. Sullivan said he appreciates the Gateways and Corridors philosophy and believes it has paid off handsomely for Ford Street.

“Ford Street has been looking a lot better these days,” he said.

Ms. Fletchall, a nurse at St. Joseph’s Home, just gave the flower box and hanging plant-decorated front porch of her home a fresh coat of grey paint and black window shutters with the help of her father, Dwayne Fletchall.

“Shocked,” she said of receiving the chamber’s monthly honor. “I was excited.”

But Ms. Fletchall a strong believer in pride of place.

“I’m proud of what I did,” she said Monday,” she said. “I want people to turn their heads when they drive by.”
