MORRISTOWN - The Morristown United Methodist Church, 504 Gouverneur St., will close its doors next month.
The Rev. David C. Piatt said members voted to close the church after increased financial obligations and a decline in membership made upkeep difficult.
The church will officially close after a special service at 3 p.m. Aug. 18.
The service of leave-taking will recall 170 years of ministry to the community of Morristown, Rev. Piatt said. We now bring our long history of ministry to a close. We will celebrate, and we will grieve. We will reflect upon the past, and we will anticipate the future.
