Family Feud draws audience laughter in its third year

Roughly 150 people turned out to Thursday night’s third annual Family Feud at the Ogdensburg Free Academy auditorium.

Part of the 53rd Seaway Festival, the competition has become a community favorite and pits crowd members against each other in friendly competition.

Event organizer Matthew A. George said the questions and answers for this year’s competition were solicited via social media.

Many of the topics referenced familiar landmarks for area residents.

The teams were chosen at random from the audience – everyone who bought a ticket at the door was entered as a possible contestant.

Door prizes, like tickets to Darien Lake and gift cards to local restaurants, were also given out to audience members who didn’t participate.

T-shirts were thrown into the crowd during breaks.

During the game contestants were asked to correctly guess crowd-sourced answers to a variety of fill in the blank problems – for instance, name a dairy product that isn’t milk.

Cheese was the most popular answer, closely followed by ice cream.

But even when contestants didn’t get the correct answer the atmosphere was lighthearted and good-sportsmanship was practiced by everyone.

When Billy LaFlair said “jams” are things you pump up (as opposed to balls, tires and egos), the buzzer that denotes a wrong answer was nearly drowned out by laughter from the audience.

The $300 prize went to Joyce Shattuck, Billy LaFlair, Kat Butler, Zach Matthie and Megan Sovie who played with Chuck “Uncle Cheek” Poirer on team 101.5 The Fox.
