PARISHVILLE — For each of the past eight years, one weekend in August has served as somewhat of a town gathering for the people of Parishville.

The annual townwide garage sales, scheduled for Aug. 10 and 11, draw strong participation from residents and attract others to the community.

In a historical town such as Parishville, notable houses and buildings are ever present. In August, antiques and other items with historical value can be found at some of the sales.

Helen T. Condon puts together a map of the garage sales for the weekend event.

“The people call me, and I put them on the map. We put stacks of maps throughout the town at strategic places. We have people at church hand them out,” Ms. Condon said.

The Parishville Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tours, and raffles will be held. One of the highly sought-after items in the raffles should be a braided rug, according to Ms. Condon.

Additionally, AmVets will serve food and beverages, and the Parishville Fire Department will have hot dogs and hamburgers for sale.

“We have about 35 garage sales throughout the town. People come from everywhere. For some reason, we seem to always have antiques and architectural antiques. It gets bigger and bigger every year. ... People call me, tell me if they have something that’s really different to bring in.” Ms. Condon said.

The garage sales have taken place on Fridays and Saturdays in the past, but because of some requests, this year’s event will be on a Saturday and Sunday.
