POTSDAM - The Potsdam Farmers’ Market, in cooperation with local community organization GardenShare, is hosting Family Fun Day, a special event featuring fun activities for the whole family.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday behind the municipal lot near Ives Park.

Children can test their knowledge of fruits and vegetables at the trivia tent or try their hands at the radish toss for the chance to win some fabulous prizes and a local artist will be on hand to do face paintings. July is National Ice Cream month, and to celebrate, the first 75youngsters to visit the manager’s tent at the event will receive a certificate for a free single scoop ice cream cone, courtesy of Stewart’s Shops.

While the kids are at play, adults can enjoy a talk by locally renowned author Yvona Fast. Her new book, Garden Gourmet: Fresh and Fabulous Meals from your North Country Garden, Farmers’ Market, or CSA, is a compilation of her best recipes for getting the most out of seasonal vegetables. Fast will speak about her book at 11am, followed immediately by a Q&A session and book signing. There will also be trivia game for adults with each participant with the correct answers earning a chance to win a basket of farmers’ market goodies.

Families will also get the chance to get a little wacky and make a lasting memory at the photo booth. Fun props will be provided and photos taken by local photographer, Laura Popielski. Laura is also GardenShare’s Program Manager and is helping to coordinate the event.

“The photo booth should be a great opportunity for families to have a funny group photo taken that can be a lasting keepsake from the event,” says Popielski. “Everyone who participates will have their photo emailed to them the following week.”

A DJ will provide music to serenade a breakfast of hot coffee and biscotti, or a picnic lunch of a freshly prepared wrap or salad, all available for sale at the market. Shoppers can enjoy browsing the booths of over 30 local producers offering fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, artisan cheeses, wines, teas, bakery goods, herbs and starter plants, organic cosmetics, maple syrup and honey, flowers, and unique crafts of all kinds.

The event will also feature free tastings of local cheeses and wines, and samples of a dish featuring seasonal ingredients fresh from the market.

Family Fun Day is the third in a series of special events planned for this summer season at the Potsdam Farmers’ Market designed to bring fun and entertainment to downtown Potsdam and increase awareness and sales of locally produced goods. Debit and EBT cards are accepted!
