RICHVILLE – Rodney J. “Papa” Cardinell, 61, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at the family home, Rainbow Farms, on Saturday, July 20th. Visitors are welcome at the home anytime of day on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Rodney was born March 13, 1952 in Canton, the son of John “Jack” and Helen Gordon Cardinell.

Rodney received a general equivalency diploma while serving in the United States Marine Corps. He also graduated from SUNY Geneseo following his honorable discharge.

He worked several years in construction before following his desire to work the land and enjoy the animals on his farm. He operated Rainbow Farms near Richville for nearly 20 years. Rodney loved to plant trees and flowers but his true love was for the animals, all sorts of pets from a – z.

Rodney married Cindy Clifford on December 27, 2003. A previous marriage ended in divorce.

Rodney is survived by his wife Cindy, his three children Rodney R. and Marjorie Cardinell of Fowler, Amber Mae and Patrik Morrill of Russell, Micheala P. Sharlow of Richville, and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters Jack and Lucille Cardinell, Jackie Cardinell, Thomas Cardinell, Scott Cardinell, Carole Whitehead, Audry Curry, Sally Cardinell, Sharon and Butch Wiese, Faith and Francis Steen, Terrie and Larry Walrath, Kathy Sharpstene, Sheri and Joe Smith, Dawn and Jerry Daniels, Laurie and Bob Church, Linda Bascom, Bonnie and Jerry Snell, Carol Cambridge, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents.

Rodney will be dearly missed.
