A Rutland woman has been accused of leaving a dog in her car while it was parked in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot during Tuesdays excessive heat.
Dawn M. Gleason, 47, of 31723 County Route 143, town of Rutland, was charged by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies Tuesday morning with animal cruelty.
She is accused of leaving a dog her 2005 Dodge Stratus in extreme heat at Walmart on Route 3, causing the animal to pant heavily and appear in distress.
According to the police report, the temperature was 85 degrees and the windows were not sufficiently open to provide proper ventilation.
She was ordered to appear in Watertown Town Court.
