POTSDAM – SLC Arts Council promotes the arts throughout Northern New York by providing art education, artist support, and community enrichment. SLC Arts collaborates with a variety of local and regional partners to raise the profile of the arts in the region while building community through the arts.

In September, the new SLC Arts Gallery at Town Hall in Potsdam will open with Peace Framed, a mixed-media show celebrating International Peace Day.

“We are excited to partner with the town of Potsdam to bring the work of local and regional artists onto the walls of the new town hall building on Elm Street,” said Rebekah Wilkins-Pepiton, executive director, SLC Arts Council.

The 2013-2014 Gallery Season will offer the community a variety of artistic styles and mediums with opening receptions encouraging people of all ages to meet the artists and participate in the artistic process. For more information on the upcoming season, visit: www.slcartscouncil.org>Gallery.

SLC Arts Academy continues to offer diverse workshops and class series for the community. SLC Arts collaborates with local teaching artists to meet the demands of the community in providing opportunities for people of all ages and artistic interest. All classes and workshops take place in the SLC Arts Academy & Studios on the 2nd floor of Downtown Snell Hall. For a complete list of upcoming classes and workshops, visit: slcartscouncil.org.

In an effort to continue meeting the needs of the community and offer diverse programming and opportunities, the SLC Arts Gift Shop at 51 Market St. will close permanently on Aug. 16 and have a warehouse sale Aug. 23-24.

SLC Arts encourages community members to continue supporting the local artisans who sell work at the gift shop by making purchases between now and Aug. 16.

SLC Arts also encourages the community to continue buying locally by contacting artisans directly through the SLC Arts Council Directory and supporting other area merchants who stock local artisan wares.

The SLC Arts Council offices will be moving to Downtown Snell Hall room 231, adjacent to the SLC Arts Academy & Studios. “We are thrilled to be joining artists in the beautiful space, working where they work,” SLC Arts Council Grants & Education Coordinator Suzy McBroom said,
