DEXTER Firefighters were able to extinguish a fire quickly and save a County Route 53 house from further damage Friday afternoon.
Firefighters from Dexter, Brownville, Chaumont and Glen Park responded to the blaze about 1:45 p.m. at 16873 County Route 53. No one was at home and there were no injuries. On Friday afternoon, a cause had not been determined.
When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming out of the house, Jefferson County Director of Fire and Emergency Management Joseph D. Plummer said. A motorist passing by saw smoke coming out the windows and called 911. Mr. Plummer was unable to say the extent of the damage that the house sustained.
Despite enduring Fridays 80-degree temperatures in their gear, firefighters took just a few minutes to put out what was called a small fire, Mr. Plummer said.
They did a great job, he said.
Owner Adam S. Beshures was running errands and headed to the gym when he heard about it. He said he believed it started in the basement, where he had just finished a major remodeling project.
