The Ogdensburg City Council gave final approval for the sale of Haley Park at Monday’s meeting.

Located on the corner of Bigelow and Ford Street, the property was sold for $3,400, including surveying.

Edward and Katherine O. Dana, who live at 2127 Ford St., purchased the 6,000-square-foot property which is adjacent to their front yard.

The property was only available by auction to adjacent property owners.

A monument to Isabel Woodley Haley on the property will be moved to another location in the city, Mayor William D. Nelson said.

Mr. Nelson said the final resting place for the monument hasn’t been determined.

“We’re definitely going to relocate it,” he said.

The monument was dedicated to Mrs. Haley in 1928 by the St. Lawrence County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

It was originally used as a water fountain for animals on Commerce Street. A plaque on the monument reads, “To man, to beast – a Friend.”

The monument was relocated to its current location in 1959. The city has owned the property since the 1800s, City Manager John M. Pinkerton said.

The Danas had been maintaining the property since moving in last fall.

Mrs. Dana said they plan on landscaping the property.
