Formerly of Canton—Peggy Elaine Crandall, 80, of Debra Drive, Potsdam, formerly of the Sykes Road, died July 7, 2013 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Peggy was born in Mountain Grove, Missouri, to Lew and Thelma Gordon on May 12, 1933. She had four siblings, Pat Gordon, Vivian Ludolph, Gary Gordon and the late, Ida Thomas,.

Peggy attended Fairgrove High School in MO and then attended Union College in Lincoln, NE where she studied nursing.

As a young teenage girl, she raced stock cars, which was a rare sport for girls at the time. She taught one year of school in Cassville, MO and later came to Canton, NY to teach school at the 7th Day Adventist Church. There, Peggy met Donald Crandall and the couple married on June 9, 1955. Peggy also worked as a Home Health Aide for a number of years, caring for area families, including: the Cornell Family, the Spears Family and the Lawrence Family.

Peggy is survived by her six children: Mark (Carol), Ralph, Kristen Benson (Alan), Alan (Lori), Terry (Maureen) and Sean (Trisha) and eleven grandchildren: Shaun Michael, Bryan, Ryan, Brandon, Chase, Grace, Justin, Kate, Claire, Andrew and Annie.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11th from 10 am to Noon at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. A Memorial service will follow at 12:15 PM with Rev. Angel Rodriquez as celebrant. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Canton.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
