Featuring farms and agribusinesses in Jefferson County, the 2013 Local Food Guide has been released by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County.
The guide provides Northern New York residents with a listing of local farm stands as well as farmers markets throughout Jefferson County, where consumers can connect with local producers. Listings in this years guide have grown by 20 percent from last year.
New to the guide this year is a program called Bonus Bucks, which allows participating farms to provide residents with coupons at markets that are redeemable with the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, Electronic Benefits Transfer cards or Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Participants in these programs will have better access to grown produce, vegetable plants and other locally produced goods at markets, reinforcing the extensions Adopting Healthy Habits campaign.
Guides are now available at any of the local markets; Jefferson Countys extension office, 203 N. Hamilton St., or the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce, 1241 Coffeen St. The guide can be downloaded at www.ccejefferson.org.
