The outdoors calendar for this month includes a decoy show, Spey Nation fishing event, youth adventure day and trappers rendezvous.Todays column gives a brief rundown on each of those activities.
Clayton Decoy Show
The 45th Annual Decoy, Wildlife Art and Sporting Collectibles Show will take place July 19-20 at the Cerow Arena in Clayton. Show hours run from 9 a.m-6 p.m., and admission is $5.
The admission fee includes entry in a drawing for a chance to win a decoy by Bill Moore of Moravia.
Show vendors include nationally known carvers, wildlife artists, and vintage decoy and sporting collectible dealers.
Attending the show will be Joe Engers, publisher of Decoy Magazine, and Gary Guyette from Guyette, Schmidt & Deter, the worlds largest decoy auction firm.
Guyette will have decoys on display for their up-coming auction in Portsmouth, N.H., on Aug. 1-2.
Ray Chapman from Auctions by Chappy will sell part of the collection of Crandall Melvin, Jr. at 1 p.m. Friday. Melvin was a friend of the two well-known carvers Paul Casson and George Thompson.

Contests at the show include the Vintage Decoy at 11 a.m. on Friday, the Art Knapp Singles at noon on Friday, and the Jack T. Sweet Pairs and the Ken Harris Rig at 10 a.m. Saturday at the outdoor pond area behind the arena.
The decoy show also includes the always popular Guides Traditional Shore Dinner ($20) on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Coyote Moon Vineyards. Sponsored by Classic Island Cruises, proceeds from the dinner benefit the Thousand Island Museum.
Spey Nation Event
The use of the two-handed spey fishing rods for trout and salmon continues to grow in popularity, and in light of that trend the annual Spey Nation event returns to the Salmon Rivers Pineville boat launch on July 20 beginning at 9 a.m.
The event pairs spey casters and manufacturers in a streamside setting for demonstrations and rod testing. This years presenters include Travis Johnson, Josh Linn, Andrew Moy, Walt Geryk, Tom Larimer and Patrick Ross.
Proceeds from various drawings will benefit the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club.

QDMA Youth Adventure Day
The Quality Deer Management Associations (QDMA) Youth Adventure Day will take place at Lucky Star Ranch in Chaumont on July 27.
Among the interactive events at previous youth adventure days have been gun cleaning and gun safety by Otis Technologies, trapping, taxidermy, QDMA laser shooting, air gun target shooting, sporting clays, food plots, zoo animals, tree and plant identification, fly fishing and tying, wildlife calling, archery, footprint casting, marksmanship, and robotic deer demonstrations.
Previous presenters have included DEC, Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, NRA, QDMA, Jefferson County Soil and Water District, Cornell Co-operative Extension, Thousand Island Land Trust, Clayton Fire and Rescue, Conservation Alliance, Watertown Zoo, and Living Waters Fly Fishing.
The Youth Adventure Day is open to youths of all ages (free for 5 and under, $5 for ages 6-12, and $10 for youths 13 and older). All youths must be accompanied by an adult while all adults must be accompanied by a youth.

Adventure Day hours extend from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with pre-registration beginning at 8 a.m. QDMA staff will provide lunch and drinks.
The St. Lawrence County Trappers Association is hosting its annual Trappers Rendezvous on July 27-28 at the Massena R&G Club, where that club is hosting its Gun Show and Flea Market at the same time.
Admission to the rendezvous is $2, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in various drawings, observe numerous trapping-related demonstrations, and purchase supplies, such as traps, lures, stretcher boards, knives, baskets and more.
Among the drawings is one for a NYS Lifetime License for trapping, fishing, or hunting.
