OGDENSBURG The first Oswegatchie Delta Music Festival is scheduled for today at Hosmers Marina and will feature 10 local musicians and bands.
We thought it would be a good idea to bring people down to enjoy the river with music, marina owner William D. Hosmer said.
The music festival concept began to take shape when Mr. Hosmer started talking to local artists. Mr. Hosmer said many of the musicians he talked to were looking for venues, and he decided to open the marina up to them.
The number of musicians interested, however, quickly made a festival possible.
The musicians are all local, from Watertown and St. Lawrence County, Mr. Hosmer said.
And, he said, given the nature of the venue, people may walk or drive to the marina or anchor their boats off shore and listen from the river.
A key part of our communitys long-term effort to revitalize the waterfront is making the Oswegatchie shoreline a showcase for the north countrys most talented musicians and singers, Mr. Hosmer said in an emailed message.
He said he plans to make the festival an annual event.
The festival costs $5 to enter. The admission fee enters participants in a raffle for a gumdrop guitar made by Pat Duffy. The drawing will be held at 8 p.m.
The festival begins at noon and is scheduled to continue until 10 p.m. Anyone looking for more information should call Hosmers Marina, 54 E. River St., at 393-3324.
