Man accused of hitting trooper with car, DWI, will have case heard by grand jury

A St. Lawrence County grand jury will hear the case of a Maryland man accused of drunken driving and hitting a state trooper in the city before driving off.

Ryan C. Mundorf, 18, of Potomac, waived his rights in absentia Tuesday to a preliminary hearing in Ogdensburg City Court for Dec. 28 charges of driving while intoxicated, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply with a lawful officer, reckless driving, speed not reasonable and prudent and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

He was accused of striking state Trooper James P. Bertram with his vehicle on State Street before driving off.

He is represented by attorney Lloyd G. Grandy II, of Canton.

Also before Judge A. Michael Gebo on Tuesday:

Emile M. Rowe, 31, of Hollis, pleaded guilty to attempted promoting prison contraband to satisfy an April 6 charge of promoting prison contraband.

He was accused of bringing a single-edge razor blade in his wallet when visiting Ogdensburg Correctional Facility. An electrician by trade, he claimed he used it to splice wire.

He was fined and surcharged a total of $350 plus a $50 DNA fee and was granted a conditional discharge.

He was represented by attorney Scott B. Goldie, of Canton.
