CANTON An expected appearance by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday to sign Start-Up New York legislation at SUNY Canton did not take place, but still could be in the works.
I heard he was postponing, said Canton Town Supervisor David T. Button, who had been one of those invited to the event. I was told when it was rescheduled, hed be back in touch.
The initiative was passed by the state Legislature. The Start-Up program will establish tax-free zones on SUNY and select private college campuses. Businesses that set up shop in a tax-free zone will be exempt from corporate, property and sales tax for 10 years. Employees working at businesses in the tax-free zones will not have to pay income taxes for five years.
