A group of members of the Northern New York Junior Bassmasters Club and other youngsters enjoyed a chance to meet Elite Bassmaster Angler Dean Rojas and check out his boat on Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sovie.
Rojas, an Arizona resident and a Gander Mountain Pro-Staffer, made his first trip to the St. Lawrence River in preparation for fishing the Evan Williams Bourbon Showdown of the Bassmaster Elite Series out of Waddington on Aug. 9-10-11. Rojas also owns a Grand Prix Hydroplane racing boat and became close friends with the Sovie family on the boat racing circuit. Rojas, who plans to race his GP Charger with Jessie Robertson at the wheel at the Valleyfield, Que. Regatta, currently stands in 12th place in Bassmaster Elite Series season point standings. He holds the world record for a five-fish one-day limit of 45.02 pounds which he landed on Lake Toho just outside of Orlando, Fla. in 2001. The young angling enthusiasts from left are: Karson LaRose, Keighan Sias, Cote Bidwell, Ayden Sovie, Bailey Friot, Spencer Woodard, Zach Bidwell, Austyn Chase, Jacob Love, Garrison Moore, Kailey House, Guy Durant III, Kohen Brenno and Jacob Corbine.
