CARTHAGE Village property owners now can search online to see if their taxes have been received, village Clerk/Treasurer Kristy L. OShaughnessy said Monday at the Board of Trustees meeting.
The site is through Business Automation Services software provided by Jefferson County.
In future years residents may be able to pay their taxes online, as well, Mrs. OShaughnessy said.
Users can log on to egov.basgov.com/carthage and plug in the property address or owners name. A page listing the amount of the payment and when and how the payment was made will pop up. Also listed are the tax levy, taxable value of the property, tax rate and property information.
According to the site, the taxes can be paid at the village clerks office, 120 S. Mechanic St., from June 1 to 30 without penalty. Beginning July 1, a 5 percent penalty will be added to all unpaid taxes. Every month thereafter, a 1 percent penalty will be added until Nov. 1, when unpaid taxes are returned to the Jefferson County treasurer. Cash or checks payable to village of Carthage are accepted as payment.
Village office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. During the summer, the office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Any questions or concerns can be addressed to the tax collector at 493-1060, ext. 1.
Other municipalities also have this service and can be located by logging onto egov.basny.com.
