Rude, irresponsible member of Assembly was the headline given to a letter from Robert Merrifield that was published June 9. Mr. Merrifield related his unhappiness over an experience while in Albany to lobby for his cause. I can partially agree with the headline writer. There certainly was rudeness and a lack of responsibility shown in the encounter between Mr. Merrifield and Assemblywoman Russell. I submit that the person who was being rude and irresponsible and, I would say arrogant, was not Mrs. Russell.
One simply does not accost an elected representative on her way to an appointment and expect to receive a hearing. In polite society there are conventions that are followed if one wants the ear of his representative, an appointment is arranged. Its that simple. It can be done.
Ive participated in such meetings with each of our areas state legislators. Sometimes they have been sympathetic to my cause and sometimes not, but a polite and respectful ambiance has always made for a satisfactory exchange of views.
