HAMMOND — Lights. Camera. Action.

A helicopter crew will film St. Lawrence Seaway scenes along the St. Lawrence River from Cape Vincent to Massena starting at noon Saturday.

Several towns, villages and organizations along the river have partnered to create promotional DVDs of tourist attractions in the Thousand Islands and Seaway region.

“It will show that it is a very connected region, from Canada to the U.S. side. There are endless things to do and see, from state parks to small towns,” said Thomas A. Weldon of 1,000 Island Reflections, which is producing the videos.

The $5,000 producer fee will cover the helicopter, pilot, two camera operators and the camera equipment.

Funding for the DVDs will come from the town of Hammond’s $20,000 general fund.

Last week, the town and village’s Economic Development Council worked with 1,000 Island Reflections to establish specific areas for filming.

Areas such as Black Lake, Chippewa Bay and Blind Bay could be featured.

“This weekend is a great time to film,” Mr. Weldon said. “While we are filming, several different things are happening: the Clayton craft show, Alex Bay poker run and Brockville (Ontario) is hosting the tall ship regatta.”

Filming will end Tuesday.

Hammond will receive its own footage as well as the whole region’s footage in mid-August.

Video images can be used for promotional pieces in online venues such as YouTube, print advertising and social media, Mr. Weldon said.

“I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with,” said Supervisor Ronald W. Bertram.
