Massena teen jailed on bench warrant

BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up William P. Rochefort, 18, of 107 Stoughton Ave., Massena, on a bench warrant for an alleged violation of a case where he had been adjudicated as a youthful offender. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest after he allegedly attempted to thwart police officers to take him into custody on the warrant. Police said Rochefort locked himself inside hius residence after being told he was under arrest on the warrant. Police said after they forced the door open Rochefort attempted to run from them inside the home and then struggled with officers when they were taking him into custody. He was arraigned by Acting Village Justice James M. Crandall and was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

Village police charged Rochefort with two counts of possession of hypodermic needles on May 21. Police said the needles were located under the passenger seat during a traffic stop at 2:34 a.m. that day.

Village police had also charged Rochefortwith a felony count of tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment and a discharging a firearm within 500 feet of dwelling on May 11.

Police responded to multiple reports shortly before 8 a.m. of shots fired on Stoughton Avenue. Rochefort later told police he was shooting at a squirrel in the backyard of his residence.
