CLAYTON River Audio, a new downtown business specializing in wireless hi-fi home audio systems, is holding a grand opening Thursday.
The 521 Riverside Drive stores owner, Daniel A. Throop, is a self-proclaimed evangelist of the Sonos wireless audio system who was approached by the company to sell its products.
This is probably the first high-tech business to open up in Clayton in a very long time, Mr. Throop said.
And he said he believes Clayton soon will evolve into a year-round market large enough to sustain a specialty store such as River Audio.
With the new hotel, Clayton is going to grow into a year-round destination, he said. I believe theres enough of a market here that I can make a profit by this fall.
Mr. Throop said the total cost of a Sonos audio system varies greatly depending on what the customer is looking for.
Sonos offers three different types of speakers beginning at $299 for a single Play: 3 satellite speaker; $399 for the bigger Play: 5; and the three-channel Playbar priced at $699 and the companys subwoofer costs $699.
He said $2,000 would get you a 5.1-channel surround sound system with Sonos speakers, but people can purchase a Sonos Connect for $349 instead to stream audio from Internet music services or mobile devices to existing or third-party sound systems.
From 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, pizza will be served for River Audios grand opening.
Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
