They may not be faster than a speeding bullet, but the Empire Super Sprints can motor around any speedway at blistering speeds.
The ESS tour stops in Akwesasne and Evans Mills Speedway this weekend. Tonight, they will compete at the Mohawk International Raceway, and on Saturday night at the Evans Mills Speedway.
Their appearance at Evans Mills on Saturday night is the first time they will have raced on an asphalt track, said Evans Mills Speedway general manager Greg Smith.
Jeff Cook of Antwerp was one of two sprint-car drivers that practiced on the track about two weeks ago and they told track officials they were pleased with the practice session.
We are hoping for a good crowd Saturday night, Smith said. I hope the weather holds up.
The race winner will collect $2,500. A full program of racing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Three-time NASCAR champion and last weeks Sprint Cup race winner Tony Stewart returns to Canandaigua Motorsports Park in a mid-week race on Tuesday.
Stewart is racing in the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Series at the Ontario County Fairgrounds. Stewart will be taking on current All-Star sprint car points leaders Dale Blaney and Tim Shaffer.
Big Money Awaits Winner
Edwards native Tim Fuller is looking forward to a chance to collect $100,000 in a late-model race at the Eldora Speedway in Ohio. Saturday nights prestigious race is sponsored by the United Midwest Promoters (UMP).
On the World of Outlaws tour for late models, Fuller is fifth in points, while fellow north country native Tim McCreadie is sixth, only 18 points behind.
Saturdays race is one of the biggest of the year that I will compete in, Fuller said this week. Ive been in contention for some wins this year on the tour and have picked up some wins in non-World of Outlaws races.
McCreadie has five victories this season, including two on the series tour.
Lately, in order to save on our equipment and, if I am not in contention late in a race, I will pull into the pits, McCreadie said.
