Box Lunch Revue series changes venue

There’s a new meal plan for the Box Lunch Revue.

The Downtown Business Association began the weekly summer concert series in 2006 to attract people downtown on their lunch breaks. Guests performed on the front lawn of the Jefferson County Historical Society, 228 Washington St.

Last year, the days of the revues were switched from Fridays to Wednesdays to coincide with the Farm and Craft Market sponsored by the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce. The market begins a new season on May 29.

“Last year, it seemed more like competing than working with the chamber,” said DBA board member Albert J. Romano Jr. “They often had musicians performing too.”

And last year’s revue on the Historical Society grounds didn’t seem to tap into the foot traffic the Farm and Craft Market provided, he added.

“We figured, ‘Why don’t we expand the revue and work with the chamber?’” Mr. Romano said. “They were open to the idea.”

The Box Lunch Revue acts will perform at the Farm and Craft Market at a spot set up in front of City Hall. The series, featuring acts from performers who are all based in the north country, is expanding from nine to 14 weeks.

“I think it’s going to work out, not only for the DBA and the chamber, but the performers like it as well,” Mr. Romano said.
