City, JCIDA agree on Stream parking arrangement

The public will be able to use a city-owned parking lot behind Liberty Plaza that had been reserved for Stream International employees.

It’s part of an agreement the city of Watertown and the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency have reached regarding the city-owned parking lots the company uses for its employees at its Arsenal Street call center.

The Watertown City Council is expected to approve the agreement at tonight’s meeting, which will start at 7 p.m. in the third-floor council chambers in City Hall, 245 Washington St.

The company has agreed to relinquish its exclusive right to a seldom-used parking lot behind Liberty Plaza. The JCIDA will pay $20,000 in maintenance costs.

The 10-year lease expired May 1, and the JCIDA asked for a five-year extension on the $1-a-year lease. Under the proposed agreement, Stream International could recover portions of that parking lot as needed.

The arrangement would resolve what has been a thorny issue with JCIDA officials, who have said it was imperative that Stream International have enough parking.
