Working for change in Morristown district

Many of you have come to know me as I’ve spent the last five years serving on the Morristown Central School District school board, primarily as vice president. I would like the opportunity to serve you again as an applicant for one of the three positions open in Tuesday’s election.

My adult life has been spent serving public education through my association with the public schools of New Jersey as both a teacher and administrator. I’ve done my best to represent the children, parents and residents of Morristown and have come to realize that changes must be made in order for our district to serve the needs of students.

For the past two years I’ve served on the regional study committee to examine ways to best modify our present systems for seventh through 12th grades. State funding has been reduced and caps imposed to such an extent that we cannot adequately offer quality courses to our upper grades. The committee and our board will soon be making final recommendations. I’d like the opportunity to complete this task and move into a process of change that will better serve our students’ academic needs.

For the past three years, I’ve volunteered in the PARP/Rocket Readers Program, an after-school reading program for our first- through third-grade children. I also serve as the chair of the local planning board.

My wife and I enjoy living here and are committed to 12 months of retirement each year in this small and friendly community. I hope you continue to give me the opportunity to be a member of your local school board as you cast your vote next week.
