Fredericks rides record to NCAAs

CANTON - St. Lawrence University senior Jake Fredericks locked up a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships and improved his own St. Lawrence record with a third place finish in the 110 hurdles at the ECAC Championships in Springfield, MA on Friday.

Fredericks ran 14.44, trailing only Matt Bundy of Wesley and Terrence Gibson of Worcester State in Friday’s final. Fredericks went into the ECACs ranked 12th nationally and will jump into the top five or six with his time depending upon results in other meets this weekend. The top 20 men based on performance will compete in the NCAAs. Fredericks improved his own SLU record, by .19 seconds and has now knocked 2.72 seconds off his rookie season times in that event.

In other ECAC action on Friday, the 4x100 relay team of Adrian Wilson, Omaru Kabia, Potsdam’s Shawn Lillie and Ogdensburg’s Andy Fisher ran 42.33 and finished eighth overall and Nick Crawford was 17th in the 400 hurdles, running 56.32. In women’s competition Friday, Jessica Marini was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.62 and will wait until all weekend meet results are in to see if she is in the NCAA meet. She ranks 21st with the top 22 making the field. Carly Stine, who was 13th in the same event at the ECACs is a solid lock for the NCAAs. Marisa Turner finished ninth and Kyle Morris was 16th in the high jump .

and Kristen Linder was 16th in the shot put.
